About us
Phù Sa Art Foundation was established in 2023 with the mission of preserving and sharing Vietnamese art through exhibitions, archiving, research, and community events. Built upon a private collection that includes many historically significant works, Phù Sa aims to broaden definitions and strengthen continuity within the flow of Vietnamese fine arts — from the Indochine era and post-war period to the contemporary scene.

Figuring a shape
“Figuring a shape” presents 71 sketch works by the late master Tô Ngọc Vân, offering a glimpse into the vast legacy of one of Vietnam’s most revered painters. The exhibition also opens a dialogue with seven contemporary artists — Kim Bạch, Đặng Xuân Hòa, Phan Cẩm Thượng, Duy Hoà, Triệu Phương, Lê Thúy, and Xuân Lam — representing successive generations of artists who trace their lineage to the École des Beaux-Arts de l’Indochine (1924–1945), in celebration of the school’s centennial anniversary.
The project seeks to recontextualize the Indochine artistic legacy within a contemporary framework, while inviting reflection on the relationship between form and idea, between academic tradition and conceptual practice in today’s creative landscape.
Through works on silk, oil, lacquer, paper, and mixed media, the exhibition embodies the continuity of drawing techniques, freedom of expression, and critical thinking — affirming the enduring vitality of Tô Ngọc Vân’s artistic heritage in the evolution of modern Vietnamese art.
“The Essence of a Pearl” marks the inaugural exhibition of the Phù Sa Art Foundation, presenting 35 artworks by 14 distinguished masters from the École des Beaux-Arts de l’Indochine (1924–1945) on the occasion of the school’s centennial anniversary.
Drawing inspiration from the poetic verse “Clear as ivory, pure as jade” in The Tale of Kiều, the exhibition unfolds along two intertwined narratives: the image of the Vietnamese woman — a symbol of beauty and the yearning for freedom; and the vision of Indochina as a land — a metaphor for the “Pearl of the Far East” seen through the lens of East–West artistic fusion.
Through the works of Tô Ngọc Vân, Lê Phổ, Trần Văn Cẩn, Phạm Hậu, Joseph Inguimberty, Alix Aymé, and other renowned artists, the exhibition celebrates the artistic legacy of the Indochine School, the foundation upon which modern Vietnamese art was built.
